Why is membership of the NAC important?

Local Government is facing, and will continue to face, many challenges. Not only is constant vigilance required in order to preserve and enhance our democratic system of local government, but the role and status of Councillors is subject to pressures from legislation and from non-elected public bodies.

To be effective in its role the NAC needs the support of all Councillors, in all sizes of authorities from the smallest parish and community councils to the largest unitary and metropolitan authorities, irrespective of party allegiance, with their authorities as corporate members. Please join us!

How to join

All serving Councillors in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are eligible to join where an Authority registers all their members with an annual subscription. The Northern Ireland region while being part of the National Association of Councillors manages its own organisation including membership fees and policy (http://nac-ni.org/).
